Passive Piezo Buzzer (3V–5V) – PWM Tone & Melody Sound Module for Arduino, ESP32 & Raspberry Pi
Generate Custom Melodies, Chimes & Audio Alerts
Unlike single-tone active buzzers, this Passive Piezo Buzzer gives you full programmatic control over musical pitch, frequency, and duration. Because it contains no fixed internal oscillating circuit, it allows you to play complete melodies (like 8-bit retro gaming tunes), custom multi-tone alert sirens, and distinct user-interface click feedback simply by varying the PWM square-wave frequency from your microcontroller.
Designed to drop directly into breadboards or solder into prototype boards, it operates reliably across a wide 3.3V to 5.5V DC logic level, making it 100% compatible with modern 3.3V microcontrollers (ESP32, Raspberry Pi) and standard 5V boards (Arduino Uno/Mega).
Key Features & Benefits
-
Full Tone & Frequency Control: Program frequencies ranging from 1.5 kHz to 2.5 kHz+. Generate complex sound patterns, warning sirens, or polyphonic chimes rather than a single harsh beep.
-
Native Microcontroller Support: Fully supported by native libraries such as Arduino’s built-in
tone()andnoTone()functions, as well as MicroPython and CircuitPython PWM channels. -
Low Current Draw: Operates on minimal power (<25mA typical), allowing safe operation with small battery-powered builds and low-power IoT circuits.
-
Breadboard & Perfboard Ready: Standard pin spacing fits cleanly into breadboards, universal PCBs, and header sockets without requiring messy adapters.
Active vs. Passive Buzzer: Which Do You Need?
| Feature | Passive Buzzer (This Product) | Active Buzzer |
| Internal Oscillator | No (Requires PWM / Square Wave) | Yes (Sounds automatically with DC power) |
| Tones Supported | Variable notes, melodies, complex alarms | Single, fixed continuous tone (~2 kHz–4 kHz) |
| Code Requirement | Uses tone() or PWM signal generation |
Simple digital Write(HIGH/LOW) |
| Best For | Audio feedback, game audio, musical projects | Simple on/off error buzzers and alarms |
